How to set up a secondary conversion goal?

For businesses that want multiple conversion goals in their microexperiences, a secondary goal can be added after onboarding is completed. Your microexperiences can run up to two goals:

  • Primary goal → the main action your experience is optimized for.
  • Secondary goal → an additional action visitors can take if they're not ready for the main one.

(Not to be confused with Primary and Secondary accounts, which is an unrelated naming for account structure — see What's the difference between a Primary and Secondary account?.)

When to add a secondary goal

We recommend starting with a single conversion goal. After one or two months of validated performance — enough to isolate success factors and measure uplift accurately — you can introduce a secondary objective. For the full picture of when a secondary goal is the right tool (and when separate accounts fit better), see Can Pathmonk support multiple conversion goals?.
Secondary goals work best when your business naturally combines two conversion opportunities. For example:

  • E-commerce: customers can make a purchase, or submit their details for an offer if they're not ready to buy.
  • Service businesses: redirect visitors to a key page, or launch a qualification flow for those who need guidance (see How to implement a qualification flow).

Keep in mind: adding too many options can create decision fatigue for users. Two well-chosen goals beat a menu of possibilities.

  1. Navigate to CRO → MX Studio → AI Configuration (or go directly to crm.pathmonk.com/dashboard/goals/buyingjourney).
  2. In the AI Target section, find the Secondary Target card and click Create.
  3. Configure your goal by selecting the conversion type and implementation method — the same options as for the primary goal (see How to set up a conversion goal).
